about

The Wonky Finger Reunion Band
In the late 1960s two guys rocked up in Coventry as art students at the college that, at the time, was hailed as a hotbed of conceptualism. Roger arrived from Kent; Ralph arrived from Birkenhead. They met on their first day as sculpture students, hit it off, found bedsits in the same house and then spent the next three years writing music together.
During that time, they visited Ralph’s brother, Roy, at the University of Sussex, in Brighton. He was a musician, too, and the three made more music. Roger and Ralph created enough sculpture to gain fine art degrees but produced vast numbers of songs that they performed and roughly recorded.
After college the friends completely lost touch.
In the mid-2000s, Roger found the original Coventry recordings in a box and listened to them on an old reel-to-reel tape recorder. He converted them to digital and released At the Meeting of the Earth and the Air. He really wanted to share this with Ralph, but after years of trying to trace his old friend, through as many social network and other internet sources as he could, Roger came to accept that he and Ralph would never meet again.
Then, out of the blue, in the summer of 2017, Roger received an email from Roy – Ralph’s brother. Both brothers were alive! There was much rejoicing in the Stevens house. More emails and phone calls followed.
Apparently, Ralph had worked in various jobs, travelled, married, moved to the USA and become a renowned journalist in the online world of computer technology; Roy had also married. Both brothers had changed their surnames, hence the difficulty in tracing them.
By September Roger was in Massachusetts and he and Ralph were reunited after more than 45 years. Six months later Ralph visited Britain and he, Roger and Roy got together - back in Brighton again and then in north west Scotland. They each brought four songs and lots of memories to the new collaboration and spent three days rehearsing. They invited friends Michael Whitehead and Ray Knight to join them for a day of live recording in the studio and this album was born. They will not lose touch again.

about

Roger Stevens Brighton, UK

After a long and varied career in music, from comedy rock via a Deep Purple tribute band and a covers band with author Ken Follett and the legendary Floella Benjamin, Roger now performs his own songs in acoustic venues and occasionally dips his toe in the strange waters of experimental sounds and jazz.
Roger brings to his songs thoughtful lyrics, good melodies and more than a dash of humour.
