about

Too jazzy? Or maybe not jazzy enough? Who knows what genre this music belongs to! It evolved from the success of my two live albums, A Bit Like Jazz and A Bit More Like Jazz. I decided to move back into the studio for my third jazz-inspired offering, wanting to spend time producing a more considered recording. I wrote a batch of tunes and Ali and I recorded the basic tracks. Jazz supremos Charlotte Glasson and Tom Bailey added some excellent sax, flute and bass. It was sounding good but needed a little extra something. After some experimenting, I hit upon the notion of adding some Hammond-style organ and the music immediately took off, maybe because the organ setting I used was left over from my spell in a Deep Purple tribute band in the late 1990s! We decided to rock up the drums a touch and tweak a few things, as you do. We all agreed that we had eventually landed somewhere between genres: jazz rock, prog blues fusion, rhythm and jazz! Whatever it is, I’m pleased with it and I hope you like it too.

about

Roger Stevens Brighton, UK

Roger brings to his songs thoughtful lyrics, good melodies and more than a dash of humour.
