2020 – the year of Covid. I had planned to release an album of piano-based songs. Instead, Jill and I have ended up spending most of the year in France, where her elderly mother lives, shielding ourselves from the virus. With no access to a decent piano, the original project had to be put on hold. Instead, I wrote some new songs and, as I only had basic recording facilities here, decided to go for a more live feel. I recorded myself live, singing with guitar, then sent the tracks to the recording studio, where Ali added drums and bass. Ray, Charlotte and Karen took turns visiting the studios (socially distanced of course) to add their contributions and Andy sent some mandolin parts from his home. Thanks again to all the musicians involved, to Michael Leigh for his generous collage contribution and to Steph for putting the cover together. I’m very pleased with the way it’s all turned out. Hope you like it too.
